District 6 - Ron DeSantis

“Special counsel not necessary, but may be better.”

Ron DeSantis

On May 18, Congressman DeSantis conducted an interview with Fox News on the topic of a special counsel being appointed to investigate connections between the Trump campaign and Russia. He states that no special counsel is necessary, but it might be better to get it over with so everyone can see there are no connections and the party can move on with their goals. He spends the better portion of the interview discussing how a special counsel is more appropriate for an investigation into Hillary Clinton and Loretta Lynch over the topic of emails. You may watch the full interview here:

What You can Do

“Hi, my name is _____ and I’m a constituent of Congressman DeSantis from _____ .

I’m calling to let my representative know that I do not share his opinion regarding the special counsel appointed to investigation the Trump campaign with Russia and am horrified that he would, again, try to redirect the public towards an investigation into Hillary Clinton.”

District 7 - Stephanie Murphy

Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy Sponsors Bill to Create Independent Commission/ Congresswoman Murphy has made no statement regarding the Trump Administration’s alleged ties with Russia

Stephanie Murphy

PRESS RELEASE: U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy of Winter Park, Fla., issued the following statement on President Donald Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey earlier today:

“The President's decision to remove James Comey as FBI Director gives rise to many questions, which I have no doubt will be examined in the coming days.

“However, the President's action makes one thing crystal clear: there needs to be a swift, independent and non-partisan investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Congress and the American people deserve to know all the facts, especially if we are to prevent further foreign interference's in our democracy. We should follow the evidence wherever it leads—regardless of whom it may implicate. The American people deserve an inquiry that is above partisan politics and is solely devoted to uncovering the truth.” Source

In a phone call To Congresswoman Murphy's office to regarding her recent Press Release into the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election, her Executive Assistant, Ken Heidegger, referred me to both her recent Press Release and to her appearance on Jake Tapper’s CNN show, The State of the Union, this past Sunday May 14th. Part of the Panel Discussion was on the topic of the Russians recent visit to the Oval Office. District 8 - Bill Posey

Posey Opinion on Russia Investigation Unclear

Bill Posey

On May 15th, I called Congressman Posey’s DC office and asked for the Congressman’s position on the both the firing of FBI Director Comey and whether Congress should be taking action to investigate the President’s ties - and apparent cover up of those ties - to Russia. As on previous occasions I was told that the Congressman has not made his opinion known on this subject and was invited to leave my contact information where a letter could be mailed to me at a later time. I declined. When pressed with the question of whether the Congressman is the only person in the country who does not have an opinion on an investigation of the White House’s ties to Russia, the staffer indicated that the Congressman has not made his opinion known or shared it with his staff.

It seems as though Congressman Posey is trying to get away without making a statement regarding this important issue. Please let him know this is not acceptable to his constituents!

What you Can Do

“Hi, my name is ____ and my zip code is ____.

’Im calling to ask my representative to make a public statement voicing our concern regarding the current administration’s ties to Russia and asking the Senate to establish an independent commission to investigate the Russian interference in the 2016 election. The House Intelligence Committee’s hearing was clouded by political agendas, and it is imperative to remove partisan politics from the equation in order to get to the truth.”

District 10 - Val Demings

Val Demings is happy with Mueller’s appointment, but she wants to take further steps

In a Facebook post released on May 17th, Val Demings stated that “The American people deserve answers. The appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller is a brilliant choice. Based on my knowledge of him, he will be relentless in his pursuit of the facts. He is well up to the task. Now, we need an independent commission to ensure we protect our democracy and send a strong message that we will not tolerate any interference in our elections from anyone.” In a personal response that I received regarding one of my many emails to Representative Demings, she had this to say: “As a member of the Oversight & Government Reform Committee and a frequent vocal critic of the administration, I have helped lead Democrats to demand access to taxes and dealings with Russia. I believe [Trump’s] records, once made available, will confirm the concerns of many Americans. Please be assured I will not relent in my commitment to shine light on this administration.”

Val Demings is fighting hard for the truth, for our democracy, and for her constituents. Let’s call her to thank her and to show her our support for her work, including the latest amendment that she tried to introduce (see the call to action below)!

What You Can Do

In addition to calling and thanking Demings for fighting for us, we should also let her know that we appreciate the amendment that she tried to introduce in order to not allow the firing of future FBI directors for any reason other than “inefficiency, neglect of duty or malfeasance in office.” This amendment would “insulate the FBI’s mission from political influences and agendas.” This amendment was blocked by Republicans, and will go nowhere unless we can help to get it some support. Let’s show Rep Demings our support by calling and thanking her for introducing this amendment and by asking our friends who live in other districts (and states) to encourage their Representatives to support this proposed amendment as well.

Hi, my name is {name} and I’m a constituent from {city and zip}. I’m calling to ask that my representative support legislation like Val Deming’s proposed amendment to HR 1039 in order to assure that in the future, the FBI director cannot be removed at the whim of a President or members of his cabinet. The American people should have faith that no one can interfere with the proper functioning of the FBI and that the FBI will remain a non-partisan entity of our government. Thank you!

Senator Marco Rubio

Marco Rubio the candidate repeatedly pledged to challenge Donald Trump but as another controversy swirls in Washington, Rubio is again taking a cautious path.

Marco Rubio

Rubio declined last night to comment on the news Trump gave highly classified information to Russians visiting the White House. He said little this morning. "I have very specific questions and hope they will be answered at some point today," Rubio told a CNN reporter

That response may be prudent for a figure who sits on the Intelligence Committee, but it also fits a pattern of how Rubio has chosen to deal with Trump -- an approach that clashes with his campaign vows.

Rubio's statement on appointment of Robert Mueller as Chief Counsel

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement today after Deputy AttorneyGeneral Rod Rosenstein appointed former FBI director Robert Mueller as special counsel for the investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 presidential election:

"Mr. Mueller is widely respected for his independence and professionalism. I have confidence that he will conduct a fair and thorough investigation. For the sake of the country, all parties must fully cooperate with his efforts that are focused on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. This effort should in no way be allowed to impede the ability of the Senate Intelligence Committee to conduct and conclude its investigation into the same subject. It is my hope that these investigations will now move expeditiously.”

What You Can Do

Let Senator Rubio know that we all deserve the truth, him included!

“Hi, my name is ____ and zip code is _____. I am a constituent of Senator Rubio.

Every day we are learning more about how extensive the Russian interference in our 2016 election was. We deserve to know the full truth and, as a former presidential candidate, who claims he was hacked, so does Senator Rubio. Thank Senator Rubio and ask him to  publicly support a full investigation by an independent commission free of political interference. Thank you!

Senator Nelson Praises Muellers Appointment

Bill Nelson

On May 9, Senator Nelson tweeted that “Now it is more clear than ever that we need an independent commission to get to the truth of Russia’s interference with our election.” He has been calling for long before the recent firing of James Comey. In an article published by Naples News, Senator Nelson said, “Any evidence brought forth other than by an independent special prosecutor is not going to get the job done. If you’re really going to get to the truth, then you’ve got to go outside the existing political system.

After a news-filled week, Senator Nelson approved of the appointment of Bob Mueller to carry out the investigation.

What You Can Do
