5 Faces of Oppression (Social Justice Crash Course – Brandi F.)

Join us for the first in SOLE’s Social Justice Crash Course series – The 5 Faces of Oppression!!

Led by Brandi Fliegelman, this workshop will encourage us to lean into a conversation about the “5 Faces of Oppression”, a tool created by Iris Young to allow for a deeper understanding of the way people face oppression, through Marginalization, Exploitation, Powerlessness, Cultural Imperialism and Violence. We’ll go over each of these “faces’ and discuss how they apply in the current sociopolitical environment.

Brandi is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked in the mental health field since 2011. She received her BSW and MSW from UCF and has provided therapy to children and adults since 2014. In addition she has engaged in community social work with organizations such as the ACLU, Zebra Coalition and various political leaders to fight against racial injustices and discrimination against the LGBTQ community, in particular. She returned to the UCF School of Social Work last year to teach a class on social justice issues. Brandi also loves Star Wars, singing Disney songs (poorly) and is known to tell a lot of corny jokes.

Workshop costs 1 credit – credits available on http://soleorlando.com/ on drop-in basis ($20) or as part of a package.

RSVP by emailing kate@soleorlando.com.
