Border Wall

Border Wall Start?

Workers are getting started on President Trump’s border wall -- or really, as many as eight of them.

The concrete walls are experimental prototypes of the much larger one the Trump administration plans to build on the US-Mexico border. The Department of Homeland Security took private building proposals for the project, requiring that plans include 30-foot-high concrete walls with features that discourage climbing, tunneling, tampering and damage.

Customs and Border Protection is currently evaluating proposals, and plans to start building the prototypes San Diego as soon as the end of summer, the LA Times reported.

At the pace of construction planned for next year, it would take more than 15 years to build a wall along more than 1,300 miles of border, much of it rugged and remote, that don’t have physical barriers now.

President Trump’s budget request to Congress for fiscal year 2018 includes $2.6 billion for border security. The total cost of the border wall, according to the Department of Homeland Security, would be some $21.6 billion. Source
